What is a wind zone?

This is a geographical division of the national territory defined by Eurocode 1 (EN 1991-1-4) allowing the determination of reference wind values.

For France, this division is carried out by commune, with the following zoning:

According to the Eurocode, the reference wind speed is defined over a return period of 50 years with a probability of 0.2.

The wind zone makes it possible to determine the wind actions that will be applied to the structures in the form of forces or pressures.
